About Sam Eggington
Sam Eggington won four titles and had 46 professional fights. Ask him about it and he'll change the subject.
He turned professional at 18, out of a gym in the Black Country, and never had the luxury of picking his opponents. He took fights at short notice, in other men's home towns, against people he'd never boxed a round with. It's how he ended up Commonwealth champion, then British champion, then European champion, then a world champion at a weight above the one he started at.
He also lost ten times, and he is more comfortable talking about those than the titles. The fights people remember him for are the hard ones — his 2021 meeting with Bilel Jkitou was voted Fight of the Year by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Fourteen years of that, and he still talks to a broadcaster exactly the way he talks to anyone else. He is not chasing fame and is faintly embarrassed by the idea of it. He is simply interested in what he does next.

He turns up early, does what's asked, and gives a straight answer to a straight question. Producers who have interviewed him after fights — including after the ones he lost — get the same version of him every time.
He is not a presenter and does not pretend to be. What he is: an easy interview, a very good listener, and the man in the room most likely to say the thing everyone else was thinking.
